Your Guide to Goth Fashion
While black has been the main staple of Goth fashion for years, it takes much more than simply putting on a black outfit to achieve the Goth look. True, the Goth subculture itself isn't really about fashion. However, you tell the world something about yourself by the way you dress.
What is the purpose of dressing like a Goth? To express yourself. Black is a good place to start, but many Goths add varying shades of gray and even white to their outfits.
More and more, you see rich colors such as hot pink, dark red, and royal blue as part of Goth outfits. Even so, it still usually comes down to black being the main color.
The right accessories are most important when you dress according to the Goth style. Lots of jewelry, and often piercings, are a hallmark of the style. Jewelry is silver or pewter, and usually chunky or dramatic.
What's also popular are religious symbols, which are frequently worn as pendants. It's an important part of one's identity. Patterned tights are not unusual, nor are gloves and sleeves (arm warmers). Working color into Goth fashion can be done with fishnet or striped tights.
If you're looking to dress in the Goth style, it's easy to find clothes that will work. One great place to start is at a local thrift shop. You'll be able to find a lot of stuff for a very low price, so you won't have to feel nervous about altering it to suit you. You can dye it, add studs, or whatever else to make it truly yours.
Of course, because there are more people than ever interested in Goth now, many stores cater to this and have lines of clothing available that will suit as well. You can make your outfit unique with your own jewelry and accessories.
This is only one way of thousands to dress in the Goth fashion. It's all about expressing who you are, and no two Goths will look exactly alike.
